Kashi Kandam describes Maharishi Veda Vyasa's explanation to Rishis about how Mount Vidyachala was blocked the way of Lord Surya.  Once Maharishi Narada visited Mount Vindhyachal and he was received with utmost respect and honor.  Though, Maharishi Narada was pleased at the reverence of Mount Vidhyachal, before leaving Maharishi Narada relieved a sigh of worries and disappointment.  Mount Vindhyachala became anxious to know about the distress of Maharishi Narada.    Maharishi Narada revealed the   attitude of Mount Meru who was gaining all supremacy which made him concerned about.   After listening to Maharishi Narada, Vindhyachala Parvathem felt a deep sense of inferiority and started to find a source to prove its superiority over Mount Meru, so that Lord Surya would start circumambulating the Mount Vindhyachala as he does to Mount Meru.   Mount  Vindhyachal started mounting its size, it resulted in total chaos.  Lord Surya was left stranded in the horizon and the entire Universe doomed into upheaval.   As a result, one part of the Earth became too hot to live and the other part became too cold.  All the deities anxiously approached Lord Brahma.   Lord Brahma advised them to visit Kashi and meet Sage Agasthya who could control this situation amicably.  All the deities were very much pleased to visit Kashi.   All the deities arrived in this sacred land; they took a dip in the Manikarnika Theertham and worshipped Lord Vishwanatha.  Later, they proceeded to the hermitage of Sage Agasthya.   The Sage was immersed in the worship of Lord Mahadeva with his large number of disciples.

Sage Agasthya orderd Mount Vindhyachal to reduce its size - Sage Agasthya learned the chaos caused by Mount Vindhyachal from the deities.  He promised them to bring back Mount Vindhyachal on its original form.  He realized the very truth that once he crossed the land of Kashi he could not come back to his dearest place in his life time.  This very thought of leaving the 'Mokshapuri Kashi' was tormenting him.   Finally, Sage Agasthya and his wife Lopamudra left Kashi and met Mount Vindhyachal at the point where it made the impediment to Lord Surya.  Mount Vindhyachal humbly reduced its size and gave way immediately after seeing him.   Sage Agastya was pleased and instructed Mount Vindhyachal to maintain its size till he comes back from his visit to holy land in South.  Mount Vindhyachal respectfully waited and waited so long for the return of Sage Agasthya but it never happened.  Thus, Sage Agastya resolved this issue and Lord Surya could freely move on its orbit which brought back the function of the Universe into normal.

'Kashi' the sacred place for ‘Salvation' - Sage Agasthya explains to his wife Lopamudra about the holy places and mountains which could provide Dharma (righteousness), Artha (Wealth), Kama (Desires), and Moksham (Salvation).  Sage Agasthya describes the significance of the peak Sri Sailam.  The mere sight of this peak would provide salvation.  Lopamudra inquisitively asked about the importance of Kashi and other pilgrim places which are equally important.   Sage Agastya narrated her  about the places which are capable to provide salvation are Gangadhwar, Naimisharanya, Kurushetra, Avanthi, Purushothama Kshetram, Prayag, Dwaraka, Kashi, Mathura, Ayodhya, Badarikshram and Ayodhyapuri.

Lord Karthikeya explains the majesty of Kashi Kshetram to Sage Agasthya and his wife Lopamudra - Sage Agasthya and his wife Lopamudra were circumambulating the peak Sri Sailam where they met Lord Karthikeya.  Lord Karthikeya explains the importance of Kashi Kshetram.  Lord Karthikeya spoken about his desire to visit this place and the austerities required.  Also reveals the fact that it is not at all easy to visit Kashi without the blessings of Lord Mahadeva and should not miss the opportunity to visit this holy land once in life time.  Lord Karthikeya moved towards Sage Agastya and expressed his desire to touch his body as if he was touching the soil of the sacred land Kashi.  Lord Karthikeya revealed that Sage Agastya was truly blessed to reside in Kashi.

The Origin of Kashi - The origin of 'Manikarnika Ghat' - One of the Jyothir linga Kshetram 'Kashi Vishwanatha'.

Skandapuranam describes the birth of Lord Karthikeya as Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were enjoying every bit of their married life in the Gandhamana Parvatham.  During their precious moments in their life, Lord Shiva's sperm had fallen on the ground.   As a result a colossal heat was generated in the entire Universe.  Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu instructed Lord Agni to put an end to this course of action so as to save the Universe from destruction.  Lord Agni went in disguise and requested alms to Goddess Parvati.   She kept Lord Shiva's sperms on the palm of Lord Agni and it was swallowed by him instantly.   Goddess Parvati enraged to see the action of the Lord Agni and cursed him that the sperm swallowed would cause him unbearable irritation. Lord Agni approached Lord Shiva to save Him from the unbearable heat.  Lord Shiva advised Lord Agni to implant those sperms into any woman's womb that would reduce the inflammation in his body.  Lord Agni continued search on all his way to find any woman to impose the sperm carried by him.  He did not wait too long there appeared Six Krithika women.  Lord Agni immediately imposed all these sperms into their wombs and saved himself.  These 6 Krithika women got pregnant with the children, when their husbands came to know about it, they cursed the Krithikas to become Stars.  They abandoned their fetus in Mount Himalaya before transforming them into six constellations.  The holy river Ganga carried the fetus to a pond situated in a secluded place.  The fetuses were fully grown into babies and were carried by the reed. All the deities felt happy at the birth of Lord Karthikeya.  Goddess Parvati overjoyed at the sight of stunning babies in six lotuses, she carried the six babies together with boundless joy.  The six babies transformed into one with six faces and twelve hands.
