Gnappana !! Lyrics & Its Meanings - Part 5 (Final)

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Poonthanam describes the significance of chanting the glorious names of Lord  “ Keep thou free from any kind of worldly attachment and remember the glorious names of Lord with utmost dedication and devotion, be cautious and remember the time allotted to live on Earth, be gracious to all the living beings, forget miseries and disgrace, get rid of embarrassment and with tears over flown prostrate before the saintly people, immerse yourself in the downpour of devotion and dance to the tunes like an intoxicated, as we continue the journey of life like the way mentioned above, eventually  the Prarabhdha Karma will come to an end.  As we complete the prearranged Karma, the mortal coil falls into ground leaving no trace of the soul which  meets the blissful ‘Brahmam’ and merge with it.  Once thou realize that the desires have left and not capable for salvation, do not feel thou abandoned, just listen to the glories & holy names of Supreme Lord.   My Salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardhana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Ananda ! Madhava ! Sacchidananda !  Even if thou born with a lower status/Varnam or born in a learned class who are expert in Vedas (except deaf & dumb) listen or chant any one of the countless holy names of Lord, it is definite that it would bring salvation and unite the soul with the Brahmam,  chant or listen to the glorious verses at least once in a day or when you are in a happy or contented mood or unknowingly in your dream or just for the funny side of it or for somebody else and it’s affirmed by the illustrious Sage Veda Vyasa composer of the 18 sacred scriptures and sub scriptures, Sridhara Acharya, Bhagavad Gita and Veda.  Chant the glorious verses with utmost devotion and dedication in that way immerse in the blissful Brahmam.   My salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Sachidananda ! “

Gnappana/ The song of wisdom/ The pot of Wisdom is the glorious verses about Supreme Lord which is capable to provide spiritual power and salvation for whoever desires for it.  I earnestly pray to the Supreme Lord Krishna for forgiveness for all that errors committed and shower blessings on us.

Gnanappana !! Lyrics & Its Meanings - Part -4

Jai Sriman Naryana !!

Poonthanam describes the appalling nature of human “A number of wealthy and wicked people without the knowledge of eternal truth that even their clothes they wore would not follow them at the time of death refused to offer charity or alms to pious.  It has become common to swindle the trusted one without any guilt or shame and stand for lies with an intention to accumulate wealth.  Only the intellectual realizes the fact that the ‘Brahmam’ is true.  The knowledge should be gained through the studies of scared scriptures and text, some people act like intellectuals without any knowledge just like the donkey carrying camphor without its fragrances.  Krishna ! Krishna ! The ultimate truth is ‘Brahmam’, without the consciousness of it people get carried away with excessive ravenousness.  My salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! “

Poonthanam narrates Vairagyam/austerities “life span of humans are getting reduced little by little and desires as well, meanwhile the voraciousness to celebrations, feast, earn wealth etc.. never comes to an end, ultimately the pathetic soul depart from this world….Shiva ..Shiva.  It’s the time to get familiarized with the truth; we have taken several births in this sacred Bharatha Varsha/Ganda according to our size of Karma and spent our lives without any fruitful purpose.  We have born with the short span of life, we are hail and healthy and there is not much time left with us to remember the holy names of Lord in this Kaliyuga.  The chanting & listening to the glories of Supreme Lord in this Kali era would definitely bring all fortunes or ‘Purushartha’/Dharma (righteousness)/Artha (wealth/ Kama (desires) & Moksha (Salvation) and removes fear of death.   It is not sensible to spent our precious lives meaningless and get entwined with the Karma/bondages, be familiar with the consciousness of the Supreme Lord and attain the Abode of Lord Vishnu/ Sri Vaikundam.  My salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! “

Further, Poonthanam narrates the authenticity of life “we were neither born together nor will die together, why we should unnecessarily compete and grudge each other?  Why we should run madly to mount up wealth while we have ‘Purushartha’ (Dharma,Artha,Kama,Moksha),  just like running behind a fire fly and overlook the bright sun.  Is it indispensable to have a progeny of your own while Little Krishna resides in our hearts? We have abundance of relations…..Shiva…Shiva… in the form of passionate devotees of Lord Vishnu.    It is pitiful to note that we all are entangled in illusion.   Our Earth is the place of abundance of wealth.   Lord Vishwanatha is the father of the Universe & the nature Earth is Universal Mother and we have great parents to take care of us and we have food as alms to quench our hunger.   My Salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! .”

Poonthanam describes the grandeur of Bharatha Varsha/Karma Kshetra/Karma Bhoomi and the significance of Kali era, “It’s one of glorious Gandam out of the nine which was eulogized by Rishis and Sages.  Bhartha Varsha is the center source of Karma even for the souls resides in Sathya Loka and wave off the Karma would be possible only on this sacred land.  Bharatha Varsha is the only sacred land on Earth to wave off all Karmas.   Kali era is one of the promising eras to attain salvation effortlessly out of these 4 Yugas such as Kritha Yuga, Thretha Yuga, Dwapara Yuga and Kaliyuga.  Chanting the holy names of Lord would provide all the devoutness in this Kali era.  The deities, Rishis, Sages, Yakshas, Kinnaras, Gandharvas, Nagas, who are residing in thirteen Lokas, six Dvipas, eight Gandas, and three Yugas are praising the propitious Kali era and the Bharatha Varsha as well, they all are craving to be born on Earth/Bharatha and highly praising the people and prostrates before those who resides in Bharatha Varsha in this era of Kali.  My salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! ‘

Poonthanam continues ‘we are blessed to be born as humans in Bharatha Varsha in Kaliyuga to prove ourselves righteous.  It’s disgraceful to note lack of faith in chanting the names of Lord and disbelief in sacred scriptures; we are spending our life in vain without proper wisdom and knowledge.  After several repeated births such as worms in nasty water and sand, tree, birds, animals, we have attained this present life due to the righteous deeds.   Thus, we have taken several births and after a long struggle we took the form of fetus in the womb of our mother, spends ten months in her womb, ten to twelve years as a child, later years we get proud of ourselves without knowing the passing of time and without the knowledge of our life span.  Our physique is fragile like water bubbles though it has specific shapes and structures, without knowing the truth that due to hard work it rip open.  It is pathetic to note that there is no time to remember the names of Lord during these petite hours. My salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! ‘

Poonthanam ironically narrates the human life on Earth/ Samsara Varnana, ‘some people fight for their status with no shame, some people spend their life in utter ignorance with excessive ego & pride, some people shamelessly walk around women, some people act as sincere servant, some people wander at the time of sunset and earn their livelihood by serving in temples, some people does not provide food for their parents or wife, some of the married men do not even think of their wife in dreams.  If someone point out their unruly behavior would be treated as enemy.  The honorable persons are treated as carelessly with no respect.  The conceited people speak highly about their virtues that the world is sustaining with their uprightness. My salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! ‘

Poonthanam sarcastically speaks about the insatiable nature of human in acquiring wealth ‘some people with their petite knowledge of Brahmanical rite treat themselves as Lord Brahma, some people performs Agnihotras/fire sacrifices with the selfish motive of material wellbeing, some people engage themselves in earning abundance of wealth in various methods like selling gold & gems, trading elephants & horse, eventually getting into nasty habits with covetousness to earn excess wealth, ultimately depart from life  Shiva Shiva.   Some people never get satisfied with their means; there will be no limit for their greed for the accumulation of wealth or satiate their hunger for wealth.  My salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! ‘

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Gnappana !! Lyrics and Its meanings - Part II

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Poonthanam beautifully describes the Geeva Gathi/transition of soul & its life on Earth “a soul after spending its hellish torture for the sins committed in the world of Lord Yama, gets cleansed and takes birth as human again.  Whoever follows righteousness in their life will certainly attain the comforts of Sathya Loka, the Abode of Lord Brahma after their death.  Whoever performs the virtuous deeds will reside in heaven and enjoy their life after death.  Who has no devoutness will undergo hellish torture in the Abode of Lord Yama, takes birth and return to the Earth once again and the cycle of birth and death repeats all over. A soul from the Suraloka/Abode of deities will take birth as King on Earth, one who engaged in the Chanda Karma/evil deeds will take birth in lower caste as Chandala, demons/Asuras who have performed good deeds will take birth as Suras/deities, Amaras/immortals into trees, Aja into Gaja/elephant, Gaja into Agaja, Nari/women into Nara/men, Nari into Ori, a brutal King into worms, flies into Cat etc…This is the way the soul continues its journey after death and allocation of lives on Earth takes place.  We earn abundance of Karma while living life on Earth and tastes the fruit of Karma after the present life and the cycle of birth and death continues,   just like earning wealth throughout our life time and enjoys its fruits in later years.   My salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda”

Poonthanam narrates the glories of Bharathavarsha/Karma Bhoomi, “The sacred land on Earth/Bharathavarsha is the birth place of Karma where we develop our Karma during our life time and it’s impossible to cleanse the Karma anywhere other than in the Karma Bhoomi.  The mother of the Universe/Earth accomplishes all the desires of righteous and materialistic people as well…Shiva Shiva.  The Prakruthi/nature, consort of Lord Vishwanatha excels like Earth and the deities assume various personifications for the preservation of the same.  Thus the sacred scriptures, Veda Sastras, Rishis & Sages eulogized the Earth which outshine from the 14 lokas such as Sathya Loka, Tapa Loka, Jana Loka, Mahar Loka, Svar Loka, Bhuvar Loka, Bhu Loka, Atala Loka, Vitala Loka, Suthala Loka, Thalathala Loka, Mahathala Loka, Rasathala Loka and Pathala Loka.  Further, Karma bhoomi/Bharatha Varsha spreads its glories into several Yojanas as Jambu Dvipa which stands out from Sapthadvipa such as Jambudvipa, Plaksha, Shalmali, Kusha, Krovuncha, Shaka and Pushkara.  My salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Janardana! Govinda! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda !

Gnanappana ! Lyrics & Its meanings - Part I

Gnanappana also known as the ‘The song of Wisdom’  was composed by Sri Poonthanam Namboothiri reveals his true devotion to Lord Krishna.  This glorious composition begins with Guru Vandanam/Salutations to Acharyas.  Poonthanam earnestly prays ‘Oh! Lord Krishna! Mukunda ! Janardhana! Govinda!  Narayana! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! And all my mentors bless me to chant the holy names of Lord persistently to attain salvation from this life. ‘

Poonthanam describes the pranks of Kala/Time in Kala Leela,  “Oh ! Lord it is not evident to me what was happened till yesterday and it is not quite sure what is going to happen tomorrow.  I am not sure when this mortal body is going to perish and when it is going to depart from this life.  It is one of your Vibhuthi/ plays to keep humans alive and dead without their knowledge and transform a wealthiest into poorer.  My salutations to Lord Krishna! Mukunda ! Janardhana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Aanantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! “

In Adhikari Bedham the poet describes the nature of Brahmam &humans ; some of the people don’t understand your Vibhuthi /Leela happening before them and some are not willing to realize it, some intelligent people understands what’s happening before them are just an illusion/Maya.  We have sacred scriptures and Sastras which propagates the Varna and the results of Karma.  My salutations to Lord Krishna ! Mukunda ! Jananrdhana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha !  Madhava ! Sachidananda and earnestly prays to remain these sacred scriptures and Sastras forever.  Everyone should listen to the sayings of saintly men who are proficient in Vedas and Sastras which describes the eternal truth and easiest ways to attain salvation in this Kali era.  The ultimate truth is that every human is bounded by their own Karma.  In the beginning, the Universe was a brilliant Light/Jyothi Swaroopam/Brahmam was difficult to understand for the individual and it remains the soul in all the living creatures.  My salutations to the Supreme Lord Krishna! Mukunda ! Janardhana ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Govinda ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! ‘

Poonthanam narrates the Karma Gathi, the various natures of Karma such as Punya/Virtuous Karma, Papa Karma/sinful deeds and Karma mixed with Punya/righteousness and Papa/sins and the mode of life is determined according to the Karma of the individual.  Poonthanam says “Even the learned scholars and intellectuals who has the complete knowledge of Brahmam also remains chained by their own Karma.  Lord Brahma continues his responsibility of creation until the delusion takes place; he creates every living and non living creature in this Universe, it is impossible for Him to cut off the results of Karma and bondage.  We are just a living creature with petite virtuous Karma took shelter in the womb of mother, eventually taken birth bounded with the Karma.  This process repeats and takes birth after birth in a short span of time.  My salutations to Lord Krishna! Mukunda ! Janardana ! Krishna ! Govinda ! Narayana ! Hari ! Achyutha ! Anantha ! Madhava ! Sachidananda ! “
