Sri Maha Ganapthi Mandir/Manipur Kshetram is one of the eight holy abodes of Lord Ganesha located in Ranjangaon, Pune, Maharashtra.  It is one of the prominent temples of Lord Ganesha built in the 9^th & 10 centuries by Shri Madhavrao Peshwa.  In this temple Lord Ganesha worshipped as a self-manifested idol.

 

Presiding deity – Lord Ganesha/ Tripurari Varadhe Mahaganapathi with his consorts Goddesses Sri Siddhi & Buddhi

 

Festivals – Ganesha Chathurthi, Ganesh Jayanthi, Somavati Amavasya, Vijayadashami, Karthik Purnima/Tripura Purnima, special Pujas in the month Bhadrapad, Panchami,

 

The legend has that Tripurasura originated from the explosive expulsion of air from the nose of Sage Grustmad was brought up by him.   Tripurasura attained profound knowledge and wisdom about Lord Ganesh in the early ages of childhood from Sage Grustmad.  He underwent severe austerities and prayed to Lord Ganesha, eventually Lord Ganesha was pleased at the devotion of Tripurasura and granted several boons includes his death would be possible in the hands of Lord Shiva that would provide him salvation.  After obtaining immense power Tripurasura started harassing the entire world and became the ruler of Netherlands, he defeated Lord Indra and obtained heaven; he acquired the three worlds and created havoc.    All the deities approached Maharishi Narada, at the instruction of the Sage all the deities worshipped Lord Ganesha and appealed to Lord Shiva.   Lord Shiva had a fierce battle with the demon Tripurasura, but it was turned out unfruitful because of the absence of initial worship of Lord Ganesha.  Lord Shiva realized the fault and worshipped Lord Ganesha and eventually vanquished the demon with his single arrow.  It is believed that this is the sacred land on Earth where Lord Shiva conducted worship of Lord Ganesha and beheaded the demon Tripurasura.

 

This temple remains open from 5.30 AM in the morning to 10. 00 PM in the night.

Sri Vigneshwar Mandir is one of the eighty holy abodes of Lord Ganesha located on the river banks of Kukdi in Ozar, Pune, Maharashtra.  This is one of the prominent temples of Lord Ganesha famous for its stunning architectural and exquisite murals.

The legend has that King Abhinandana performed a Yagna without providing offerings to Lord Indra.  The most infuriated Lord Indra was assigned Kala to trash the Yagna.  Kala took the form of a demon Vignasura and ruined the fire sacrifices and continued to create mayhem in the worship of Lord by the Rishis and Sages.    They were sought the help of Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva.  As per the advice of Lord Shiva, the sages were underwent severe austerities and commenced the worship of Lord Ganesha.  Lord Ganesha was pleased at the devotion of the Sages and Rishis.   In the meantime, Sage Parshva and his chaste wife Deepavatsala obtained Lord Ganesha as their son as a boon.   The demon Vignasura continued to harass the deities and sages, the fire sacrifices has reduced to nil there by the righteousness on the Earth has disappeared, the whole Universe was wrapped into darkness.    Lord Shiva and the deities approached Sage Parshva and requested to relieve their son to fight against the demon, but Sage Parshva was uncertain.  Lord Ganesha convinced Sage Parshva and with his permission he entered in a battle with the demon.      Lord Ganesha had a fierce battle with the demon Vignasura.   Vignasura assumed the mystic form of hurricane, wild fire etc..with his illusionary power,  ultimately  he surrendered to Lord Ganesha and remained one of the Ganas of Lord with a settlement that he would create impediments to those who fail to pay initial reverence to Lord Ganesha.    The self-manifested idol of Lord Vigneshwara was consecrated by the Rishis and Sage to commemorate the above incident.

Sri Girijatmaj Mandir is one of the eight holy abodes of Lord Ganesha located on the river banks of Kukdi, Lenyadri Hills (Len – Cave, Adri – Hill/ Lekhan Parvat in Pune, Maharashtra.  This is one of the ancient temples of Lord Ganesha/Girijatmaj, son of Goddess Sri Parvati/Girija situated on the Lenyadri Hills/Ganesh Gupha in the midst of stunning natural beauty can be reached after climbing 307 stone steps.    In this temple the statue of Lord Ganesha is monolithic, carved out of a single stone.

The legend has that Goddess Sri Parvati underwent severe penance in the Lenyadri Hills to attain Lord Ganesha as her son.  On a fourth day of  Chathurthi in the month of Bhadrapad  Lord Ganesha originated from Goddess Sri Parvati.  It is believed that Lord Ganesha had spent his childhood and youthful days in the Ganesha Gupha located in the Lekhan Parvat.  This is one of the significant places where Lord Ganesha vanquished demons Krur, Balasur, Vyomasur, Kshema, Kushal etc.. sent by the demon King Sindhu.  In this way Lord Ganesha has performed several childhood pranks on this sacred land.

Chintamani Mandir is one of the Eight Holy Abodes of Lord Ganesha located on the confluence of river Bhima and Mula-Mutha in Theur, Pune, Maharashtra.  This is one of the ancient temples of Lord Ganesha was rebuilt by Saint Morya Gosavi, later Madhav Rao Peshwa, ruler of Maratha Empire and an ardent devotee of Lord Ganesha has made abundance of contributions to this temple.  In this temple Lord Ganesha worshipped in the form of a self - manifested idol.

Festivals – Ganesha Chathurthi, Ganesha Jayanthi, Somavati Amavasya, Vijayadashami, Rama-Madhav Punyostav on the eighth day in the month of Karthik commemorates the death anniversary of Madhav Rao Peshwa and Rama Bhai the chaste wife of Madhav Rao embraced Sati by sacrificing her life on the funeral pyre of her husband. 

 

 

The legend has that Ganasura was the son of King Abhijith and his wife Gunavanthi.   He underwent severe penance worshipping Lord Shiva and eventually obtained several boons including the kingship of the three worlds of heaven, earth and netherworld, he had a peculiar boon that the  his death would take place in the hands of who has all the three Gunas  of Swatik, Rajass & Tamass.  He turned out too haughty after obtaining the boons and started harassing the world.  He arrived with his army of men to the Kadamba forest and accepted the hospitality of Sage Kapila.  Sage received Ganasura and his huge army and   offered them a sumptuous meal with the help of Chintamani, a wish fulfilling jewel.    Ganasura threatened Sage Kapila and seized the divine jewel from the helpless Sage.    Sage Kapila was grief-stricken, he earnestly prayed to Lord Ganesha.  On that night Lord Ganesha along with his Ganas appeared in the dream of Ganasura.  One of the Ganas of Lord Ganesha severed the head of Ganasura.  Ganasura got off from the sleep and worriedly approached with his army of men to the hermitage of Sage Kapila, though the King Abhijith was strongly opposed the very idea of his son, it ended in vain.  Ganasura and his men of army destroyed the hermitage of Sage Kapila.  Instantaneously, Lord Ganesha’s female power personified as a thousand armed warrior Laksha and wiped out the army of Ganasura.  Lord Ganesha beheaded the demon Ganasura and returned the Chintamani to Sage Kapila.  But Sage Kapila was graciously returned the Chintamani to Lord Ganesha and earnestly prayed to Lord to remain assuming the name Chintamani on this sacred land forever.

The legend has that King Bhima of the city of Kaundinya and his wife had no offspring. The couple underwent severe austerities at the instructions of Sage Vishwamitra.   In due course of time King Bhima’s wife conceived with a child and gave birth to   Rugmangadha.   He grew up with attractive and stunning physical features which would be capable to attract any woman.   Rugmangadha met Mukunda, wife of Sage Vachaknavi while his expedition through the woodland.   Mukunda fallen attracted to the handsome charming young Rugmangadha the moment she met him, she approached Rugmangadha with lustful desire, but Rugmangadha refused to yield for her yearning.  Mukunda felt terribly disappointed and in a rage she cursed Rugmangadha, due to her curse Rugmangadha afflicted with leprosy and his attractive features turned into to hideous and terrifying.  Later, Rugmangadha underwent severe austerities and worshipped Lord Ganesha, eventually got rid of the curse.

 

 

In the meantime, Lord Indra came to know about the craving of Mukunda for Rugmangadha.  He disguised into Rugmangadha and yielded for her desire.   In due course of time Mukunda conceived with a child and gave birth to Gritsamadha who was grown up as a proficient scholar.   Once, the assembly of eminent scholars like Sage Vashishta, Vishwamitra, Atri, Angira, etc… was conducted, in the congregation Sage Atri revealed his hesitation to have any debate with Gritsamadha who was not a true Brahmin by birth.   Gritsamadha felt hurt and returned to his mother; consequently Gritsamadha came to know about his birth secret.  He became devastated and cursed her mother to turn into a thorny tree which bears unique fruit.  Mukunda felt terribly upset for underestimating and cursed him to have an ungrateful and cruel demon as his child.  Gritsamadha moved through the forest of Pushpak, underwent severe penance praying to Lord Ganesha.  Lord Ganesha was pleased at the devotion of Gritsamadha and blessed him with boon of Brahma Gnan.  Gritsamadha earnestly prayed to Lord to reside on this sacred land as Varada Vinayak and bless his devotees in fulfilling desires.

The legend has that there was a merchant couple Kalyan and Indumati lived in the village of Pali.  They had a son Ballal who was a staunch devotee of Lord from childhood.   Ballal and his friends were find immense pleasure in imitating the worship of Lord on any stone images they found appealing.  Once, Ballal and his friends were found a huge stone image in the outskirt of village Pali, instantly all the children assembled were began the worship of the stone image under the instructions of Ballal.  They were so wrapped up in the prayers and veneration of the idol, ultimately they forgot their hunger and thirst, and numbers of days were passed in this way.    The parents of the children in the village were extremely anxious and conducted meticulous search of their missing children.   They approached Kalyan and strongly condemned the act of Ballal for inspiring the children put into practice.   Kalyan was fuming with anger about the irresponsible act of his son that caused the villagers in a state of panic, he conducted painstaking search through the village, and eventually met Ballal and the group of children were meditating and listening to the glorious scripture of Ganesha Puranam.    Kalyan in mounted rage destroyed the small temple was created by the children and ruined the huge stone image they were worshipping, the children were in terror flee to many directions leaving Ballal.   Kalyan bet his son mercilessly until his clothes were drenched in blood and took him to the nearby tree and left him tied to it.  He was completely hurt by the disrespectable act of his father’s towards Lord and cursed him.   Shortly Ballal became unconscious due to tired of hunger.  Lord Ganesha was pleased at the devotion of the child devotee and appeared before him as a Brahmin.  He compassionately untied the child from the tree, Ballal regained his conscious and found there was no trace of wound on his body and his hunger and thirst were vanished, he was full of life like earlier.   Instantaneously Ballal recognized the presence of Lord before him and prostrated.  Lord Ganesha blessed the child and provided him a boon, in return Ballal earnestly prayed to Lord to remain in this sacred land and bless his devotees and protect them from agonies and pains.  Thus, Lord Ganesha assumed the name ‘Ballaleshwar’ in the name of his fervent devotee in this temple.

The legend has that Lord Brahma has emerged from the navel of Lord Vishnu and started creation based on the quintessential of Veda with the blessings of Lord Ganesha.  The demon Madhu and Kaitabha originated from Lord Vishnu’s ear started harassing the three worlds, created impediments to the functioning of Lord Brahma and it caused a huge mayhem in the Universe; Lord Vishnu awakened from Yoganidra/cosmic sleep to vanquish the demons.  The fierce battle with the demons were continued for several years, Lord Vishnu approached Lord Shiva and enquired the reason for prolonging the same.  Lord Shiva brought into notice that Lord Vishnu had forgot to pay initial obeisance to Lord Ganesha, the prime deity without the veneration of Lord Ganesha the annihilation of demons would be impossible.  Lord Vishnu arrived on this sacred land and underwent penance worshipping Lord Ganesha and attained Ashtama Siddhis, eventually vanquished the demons and restored peace.

 

 

Worship of Lord Siddheshwar with his consorts Goddess Siddhi and Buddhi providence abundance of pieties includes Ashtama Sidhhis and accomplishment of desires.

 

This temple remains open from morning 4.30 AM to 9.15 PM in the evenings; during the time of festivals it remains open till 12.00PM midnight.

Mayureshwar temple/Mayurapuri is one of the eight prominent temples of Lord Ganesha located on the river banks of Karha in the village Morgaon/Bhuswananda in Baramati, Pune, Maharashtra.   Previously, Moragon was the dwelling place of huge numbers of peacock.    Ganesha Puranam describes the incarnation of Lord Ganesha as Mayureshwara.  The  demon Sindhu, son of King Chakrapani and his wife Ugra,   harassed the life of deities and Rishis.  All the deities appealed to Lord Shiva to protect from the atrocities of the demon.   Lord Ganesha took the form of Mayureshwara riding on a peacock at the divine instruction of Lord Shiva and killed the demon Sindhu.   Lord Brahma was sanctified the idol of Lord Mayureshwara with a pronouncement that this sacred place would remain indestructible in all four Yugas.   It is believed that the worship of Ashta Vinayak should begin with the veneration of Lord Mayureshwara.   In this temple Lord Ganesha, a self manifested idol  mounted with vermillion can be seen in the sanctum along with his consorts.  In the Sabha Mandapam housed 23 idols of Lord Ganesha, includes the eight incarnation of Lord as  Vakrathunda, Mahodhara, Ekadantha, Vikata, Drumavarna, Vignaraja and Lambodhara.
