Thiruvuchathanam/Koyilur /Shoothavanam
(Mangadu) is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located in
Thiruvanur District, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
In this temple, Lord Shiva worshipped in the form of a self-manifested
Linga.

Significance –
Sage Vishwamitra witnessed the
cosmic dance of Lord Shiva in this temple
Lord Rama along with Lakshman,
Sugriva, Jambavan, Anjaneya arrived on this sacred land and worshipped Lord
Shiva. Lord was pleased at the devotion
of Lord Rama and provided Manthropadhesam for the construction of massive
bridge ‘Sethu Bandhanam’ across the vast ocean in Rameshwaram. Thus, the presiding deity assumed the name
‘Manthrapureeswarar’. In order to prove
the above mythology there is a temple of Lord Rama and places in the name of
Jambavan Odai, Hanuman Kadu, Sugrivan Pettai and Thambikku Nallan Pattinam are
situated close to this sacred land.
Sage Markandeya had scars on his
neck due to the clasp of Lord Yama. He
arrived on this sacred land, created a pond known as Markandeya Theertham,
underwent severe austerities and worshipped Lord Shiva and eventually got rid
of the blemishes.
Garudalwar while carrying the pot
contains the elixir of nectar and passing through the sacred land a portion of
the same fallen on the Linga positioned here and its color turned out fair.

This temple remains open from
6.30 AM to 11.30 AM in the morning and 4.30 PM to 8.00PM in the evenings.
