Thiruppullamangai/ Alandhurai is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located on the river banks of Kudamuruttiaru in Kandiyur, Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu.  This is one of the oldest temples of Lord Shiva famous for its stunning architectural and sculptural work, widely known as Madakkovil built by the King Ko-Chengan of Chola Dynasty.  The Kings of Vijayanagara, Maratha and Naickers were made abundance of contributions to this temple.   In this temple Lord Shiva worshipped in the form of a self-manifested Linga.

Significance – This is one of the Saptha Sthana Sthalangal/ seven sacred places of Lord Shiva were worshipped by Saptha Rishis and Saptha Kanyakas.  These seven sacred temples of Lord Shiva are Thiruchakkrappalli, Thiruariyamangai, Thirusulamangai, Thirunandimangai, Thirupasumangai, Thiruthazhamangai and Thiruppullamangai respectively.
 
 
 
 
 
The idol of Goddess Durga in this temple is famous for its brilliant stone carving resembling the exquisiteness and supreme powers of the statue of Goddess Dura in Thirunangeswaram and Thirupatteeswaram.  It’s believed that these three stone carvings were made by the same craftsman.
