Chakkiya Nayanar was born in a family of agriculturist in
Thirchangamangai. He had aversion
towards materialistic way of living from early stages of life; he had abundance of love and
compassion towards all the creatures and lived a saintly life. His sincere and meticulous
search for liberation from the cycles of birth and death drove him into the
association of Buddhists. He learned the
Buddhist scriptures and its principles.
His never ending thirst for acquiring
true knowledge made him analyze ideologies of other religions and their comparative
studies. Soon, he realized the pathway
he had chosen was not that accurate to serve his needs, he immediately embraced
Shaiva Siddhanta and its beliefs. He
became an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva.
Thiru
Chakkiya Nayanar realized the undeniable presence of Lord Shiva in all five essence
of nature. He continued worship of Lord
Shiva in a serene and beautiful atmosphere.
He immersed in the worship of Linga, which has neither end nor the beginning,
he spend hours in eternal bliss. He engrossed
in the worship of Linga, he forgot his entire actions in an ecstasy he offered
stones in place of flowers. He treated his
every deed as the will of Lord. He
continued his practice of worshipping Lord with the stones. He never bothered about his outwardly
appearance as a Buddhist monk. He continued his worship of Lord Shiva and
given utmost priorities to his worship.
Thiru
Chakkiya Nayanar’s life reveals the ultimate truth and compassion of Lord, his
empathy to accept whatever offered with utmost devotion and faith. Thiru Chakkiyar worshipped Lord with
unparallel faith and devotion. Finally,
Thiru Chakkiya Nayanar attained the Abode of Lord Shiva as he was cherished in
all his life.
In the
Tamil month Markazhi – Puradam is widely celebrated as Guru Puja day, the way
Thiru Chakkiya Nayanar attained the Abode of Lord Shiva.
