Naga Panchami is celebrated on the 5th day of bright half of the month Shravan. Worship of serpent Gods, performing sacred bath for serpent God on this day and fasting are treated as auspicious. It is believed that performing sacred bath of Serpent God with milk assures permanent safety from the threat of serpents.
Bhavishyottara Puranam signifies the worship of Serpent Gods like Anantha, Padmanabha, Shesha, Kambhala, Shankhapala, Vasuki, Takshaka, Kaliya, Manibhadra, Airavatha, Drishtarashtra, Karkotaka, Dhanajaya on the day of Naga Panchami and sacred bath of serpent Gods with milk provides no harm or life threat to the worshipper.
