Purnima/Upakrama/Upakarma !! Part III !!

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Another legend has that, once Lord Maha Vishnu was spending leisure hours with Srimahalakshmi in the Milky Ocean,   Lord Vishnu was started a serious conversation with Srimahalakshmi.   Unfortunately, the mother of the Universe was seriously recollecting the beauty of the horse – Ucchaisravas that came out while churning the Milky Ocean. Thus, she forgot to pay attention to Lord Vishnu.  Lord Vishnu angrily cursed her to become a horse.   She begged to forgive her and release from the curse.  A curse is a curse; instead Lord advised her that He would save her from the curse after birth of a child.  Sri Lakshmi got the form of female horse and came down to Earth.  Lord Mahavishnu took the form of Lord Hyagreeva and they had a child named Haihaivaha, soon Sri Mahalakshmi got out of the curse.

‘Ha’ is the beejashara manthra  of Lord Hayagreeva.   King Karthaveeryarjuna was born in the lineage of Haihaivaha.  Lord Brahma requested Lord Sriman Narayana to keep His momentary incarnation as Hayagreeva  should be able to worship for all.  As a result, the Upakrama/Upakarma commemorates the ‘Brahmopadhesham’ performed by Lord Hayagreevah to Lord Brahma.    ‘Haya’ denotes Horse and ‘Greevam’ means Neck.   Goddess saraswathy is the disciple Lord Hayagreeva, so  worship of Lord Hayagreeva makes Goddess Saraswathy happy, because she prefers to stay where her preceptor have been worshipped.   The worship of Lord Hayagreeva would bring the blessings of Acharya and His disciple Goddess Saraswathy as well.
