The Male horse proceeded towards the cave where the demons were hidden the Veda. The most attractive horse stood on the mouth of the cave and released a soft neigh as a signal to the female horse inside the cave.  The female horse rushed out from the cave.  Lord Sriman Narayana beheaded the demon Hayagreeva and   Madhu Kaitaba also.  Thus, Lord Sriman Narayana has got another name ‘Madhusoodhana’.   Habitually demons have lot of flesh in their bodies by consuming meat and they are amorphous in nature. When Lord Hayagreevah beheaded the demon Madhu the excessive fat came out of his body covered extensively the upper part of the Earth.  That is how the Earth has got another name ‘Medhini’.  Lord Sriman Narayana acquired the possession of Veda and handed over to Lord Brahma.  Lord Brahma pleaded Lord Narayana, to advice the possible ways to keep the Veda undamaged and to avoid any further mishandling of the same.   Lord Narayana advised and blessed Lord Brahma, which made it possible for Him to keep all the Vedas in his mind.
Lord Vishnu took a bodily form of Lord Hayagreeva  - Horse faced Lord on  a Shravan Pournami day in the month Avani.   Worship of Lord Hayagreevah on this day and follow austerities brings abundance of virtues.  Lord Narayana advised the sacred Veda to Lord Brahma on this particular day came to known as ‘Brahmopadhesham’/ ‘Upakrama’/Upakarma.  The significance of the day is that, Lord Brahma got the ‘Vedhopadhesham’ from Lord Sriman Narayana.   That is how the rituals of  Upakrama/Upakarma came into existence.
