Sri Girijatmaj Mandir is one of the eight holy
abodes of Lord Ganesha located on the river banks of Kukdi, Lenyadri Hills (Len
– Cave, Adri – Hill/ Lekhan Parvat in Pune, Maharashtra. This is one of
the ancient temples of Lord Ganesha/Girijatmaj, son of Goddess Sri
Parvati/Girija situated on the Lenyadri Hills/Ganesh Gupha in the midst of
stunning natural beauty can be reached after climbing 307 stone steps.
In this temple the statue of Lord Ganesha is monolithic, carved out of a single stone.

The legend has that Goddess Sri Parvati
underwent severe penance in the Lenyadri Hills to attain Lord Ganesha as her
son. On a fourth day of Chathurthi in the month of Bhadrapad Lord
Ganesha originated from Goddess Sri Parvati. It is believed that Lord
Ganesha had spent his childhood and youthful days in the Ganesha Gupha located
in the Lekhan Parvat. This is one of the significant places where Lord
Ganesha vanquished demons Krur, Balasur, Vyomasur, Kshema, Kushal etc.. sent by
the demon King Sindhu. In this way Lord Ganesha has performed several
childhood pranks on this sacred land.
