The legend of Vamana – Srimad Narayaneeyam / Srimad Bhagavatham !! Lyrics & Its meanings

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, virtuous Bali was killed in a battle by Lord Indra, but he was revived by Sage Shukracharya.  Bali performed a grand Yagna and became extremely valorous; he was not even scared of your divine wheel.  Eventually Bali conquered the three worlds and the deities have to flee out of fear from their abodes.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Aditi, mothers of deities was distressed after witnessing the pathetic state of deities.  She approached her husband Sage Kashyapa seeking for help.  Sage Kashyapa advised her to undergo austerities and observe Payovratha.  Thus,  Aditi performed severe austerities and sincerely worshipped you for twelve days.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, you were pleased at the devotion of Aditi and appeared before her in your splendid form, with four arms and in blue complexion.  Aditi reverentially greeted you and prostrated before you.  You have informed her that you would be born as her son and insisted her to keep this information as undisclosed; eventually you have disappeared from her sight.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, you have emerged in the austerities of Sage Kashyapa and entered into the womb of Aditi.  In due course of time, Aditi gave birth to a stunning divine child who has the resemblance of Lord Vishnu on the day of Dwadashi with the birth star Shravan.  Lord Brahma eulogized the glories of you.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, All the deities were overjoyed and they eulogized your glories.  The deities were played divine instruments and showered flowers on the hermitage of Sage Kashyapa.  The pious couple Sage Kashyapa and Aditi stood before you with folded hands, instantly you have assumed the form of a marvelous Brahmacharin.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Sage Kashyapa and the deities performed fire ritual, adorned you with sacred thread, attired in deer skin, Dhanda and beads.  Eventually, you have proceeded to the house of Bali where a Grand Ashwamedha Yagna was being conducted.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, You have marched towards the house of Bali, the Earth was quivering due to your over weightiness, you have held an umbrella upon you as if to ward off the heat and fierceness of your opponents and a Dhanda to punish the demons.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, you have arrived on the river banks of Narmada where the grand Ashwamedha Yagna was organized. Shukracharya and others were amazed at your brilliance and wondered, was that Lord Sun?  Or Lord Agni? Or Yogi Sananthkumara?

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, You have received by Sage Shukracharya and reverentially greeted by others.  The demon Bali was delighted at your divine appearance; virtuous Bali washed your feet and reverently sprinkled that holy water on his head.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Bali was fortunate indeed to be born in the lineage of Prahlada and performed various austerities, fire sacrifices; he had immense faith on the holy men and service to them, ultimately he had the fortune to have holy water from your lotus feet.  Oh! Vibho, the holy water which meant to embellish Lord Shiva’s matted hair lock.  Oh! Gurupuralaya, I earnestly pray to protect us.
