The legend of Prachethas – Srimad Narayaneeyam/Srimad Bhagavatham !! Lyrics & Meanings

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Pracheenabharhis, great grandson of Emperor Prithu was a righteous ruler and his chaste wife was Shathadhruthi.   Oh! Supreme Lord, with your grace these pious couple had ten virtuous sons famously known as ‘Prachethas’.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, at the divine instruction of their father, Prachethas who were passionate devotees of you arrived at the shores of western seaside and found a beautiful lake close to it, they immersed in meditating upon your lotus feet.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Lord Shiva who is a zealous devotee of you always eager to witness your fervent devotees, arrived in the holy lake and appeared before the Prachethas, eventually taught them the most sacred hymn in praise of you.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Prachethass were immersed in the worship of you reciting the sacred hymn and spent ten thousand years in the water.  In order to achieve the eternal bliss they had to spend ten thousand long years unlike Dhruva who attained your blessings quickly.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Pracheenabharhis was completely purified from the sins committed earlier by offering animals in the sacrificial fire, due to the immensity of the penance of Prachethas.  Maharishi Narada taught him the eternal knowledge about ‘Athman’, eventually he attained the form of you.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Oh! Compassionate Lord, you have appeared before Prachethas in your mesmerizing form spreading luster all over, seated on your celestial vehicle Garuda, with eight arms holding the magnificent discus and other divine weapons.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Oh! Ocean of mercy, you have offered various boons to the Prachethas without asking for it.  All those boons were offered for the welfare of the humans and for the continuous wellbeing, sacred hymns of Rudra remained the perpetual boon for the fulfillment of all the desires.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, you were highly pleased at the devotion of Prachethas and blessed them that would attain the daughter of Maharuha as their wife, would lead a blissful married life for ten lakh years.  They would be blessed with a son Daksha, ultimately they will attain your abode.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, soon the excessive growth of trees all over the surface of the Earth caused dilemma, so the Prachethas were in a fury destroyed the trees and burnt them into ashes.  Lord Brahma intervened and discouraged Prachethas from the act, eventually the Maharuha/trees were happily offered their daughters married to Prachethas and they lived delightfully as you have promised.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Prachethas attained Daksha as their son and performed several sacrificial rite, with the highest of the knowledge received from Maharishi Narada, they have attained liberation at the lotus feet of you.  Oh! Vathalayanatha, I earnestly pray to protect us.
