Koormavatharam – Srimad Narayaneeyam / Srimad Bhagavatham !! Lyrics & Its meanings

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, once Sage Durvassa offered a divine garland to Lord Indra, which was given by celestial Apasara.  Unfortunately, the divine garland was trampled by the celestial vehicle Airavatha of Lord Indra.   Sage Durvassa was infuriated and cursed Lord Indra and the deities.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Oh! Provider of Salvation, Lord Indra, King of the deities was afflicted with the curse of Sage Durvasa, eventually the demons conquered the abode of deities thereby the deities lost their glories and powers.  The deities appealed to Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma; finally they took refuge in you.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Lord Brahma and the deities eulogized your glories. Oh! Lord Varada Provider of Boon! You have appeared before them in your glorious form and advised the deities to make peace with the demons to churn the milky ocean for the elixir of nectar.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Consequently the deities brought peace with the demons and proudly carried the Mount Mandhara to utilize it as churning rod, Alas ! Mount Mandhara fell down from their hands.  Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, You were seated on the celestial vehicle Garuda, picked up the Mount Mandhara effortlessly like a tiny berry and positioned it on the milky ocean.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, The deities and demons were initiated the process of churning the milky ocean by using serpent King Vasuki as the churning rope.  Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, you have cleverly employed the demons on the mouth part of the serpent Vasuki to churn the ocean.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, while churning the milky ocean, Mount Mandhara started to sink down deep into the ocean due to its weight, the deities were become anxious.  Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, who always desires for welfare of the deities, assumed the form of a giant tortoise.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Oh! Lord Vishnu, Oh! Omnipresent Lord, you have plunged deep into the ocean and carried the sinking mount Mandhara on your back which is harder than a rock and has the width more than that of Lakh of Yojana.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, The Mount Mandhara was re-installed, the deities and demons were resumed churning of ocean with all their powers and enthusiasm.  Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, you have stirred the spirit of deities and demons, removed the weariness of serpent Vasuki as well.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, The process of churning the ocean continued, Mount Mandhara rose from the ground level due to the massive force applied on it.  Oh! Lord, you have placed your lotus hand firmly on the Mount Mandhara and wedged it once again.  Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva and the deities were pleased and eulogized your glories and shed flowers on you.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, The venomous blaze emitted from the mouth of serpent Vasuki turned the demons fearsome, deities also had the same terrible effect on them.  Oh! Compassionate Lord, instantly dark clouds were formed in the sky followed by heavy rainstorm, in this way you have saved the deities, leaving the demons at the back.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, even though the churning process was continued for long, the ocean remained without any change; many of the aquatic creatures were distressed.  Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, you have appeared marvelously, holding the two ends of the serpent Vasuki.  Oh! Pavanapuresa, I earnestly pray to eradicate all our illnesses.
