Jai Sriman Narayana !!
Jai Ambey Ma !!

Great poet Kalidasa, a passionate devotee of Goddess Sri Kali was born as unintelligent, later with the blessings of Goddess Kali he turned into a renowned poet who composed various magnificent verses praising the glories of Goddess Sri Kali in ‘Shyamala Dandakam’.  His compositions are well-known for its appropriate metaphors and they are Rithu Samharam

(description of six seasons such as Hemantha Rithu/Winter  , Shishira Rithu/ Cold,  Vasantha Rithu/Spring, Grishma Rithu/Hot, Varsha Rithu/Rainy, Sharath Rithu/ Post-rainy season), Shakunthalam, Megha Sandhesham, Vikramorvashiyam, Kumara Sambhavam, Malakivagnimithram, Raghuvamsam.
I meditate upon Goddess Sri Kali, daughter of Sage Mathanga who plays gem studded divine string instrument/Veena, who has dazzling features and nectar like mesmerizing speeches.  My salutations to the Mother of the Universe who has the complexion of saffron and attractive physical features and raised bosom,  holds flower, sugar cane, rope, arrow, goad in her hands and wears crescent moon on her beautiful plait of hair.  Oh! Mother Mathangi, dear daughter of Sage Mathanga who resides in the Kadamba forest shower your grace upon us.  Victory to Mother Mathangi, daughter of Sage Mathanga ! Victory to Mother who resembles the flower Neelothpala ! Victory to Mother who enjoys all pieces of music!  And Victory to Mother who loves amusing parrots!

Wow! It's been more than 40+ years since I read this for my 4th grade Sanskrit class! Great to go back and recollect at least 30% of the stanzas.

Moreover, Sri Syamalamba is the "Grama Devatha" of my village Kaikalur in Andhra! We used to live across from the temple where I had the fortune of offering red hibiscus flowers from my backyard to Syamalmba every single day for the first 12 years of my life. Making me all nostalgic.

Thank you very much for the excellent post!
