Vruthasura harassed the deities and Sages after obtaining several boons. Lord Indra appealed to Lord Brahma and
earnestly prayed for a suggestion to get rid of the demon. Lord Brahma advised Lord Indra that the
Vajrayudham, a fierce weapon made out of the backbone of Sage Dadhichi would
assist in vanquishing the demon. As
predicted by Lord Brahma, the Vajrayudham made of out the bone of Sage Dadhichi
was killed the demon Vruthasura. Soon
Lord Indra was afflicted with the sin of Brahmahathya due to the demise of Sage
Dadhichi. Lord Indra arrived on this
sacred land on Earth as per the advice of Sage Bruhaspathi, Deva Guru and
underwent severe penance worshipping Lord Shiva. He created a pond and worshipped a Linga
positioned under the Vanni tree. Thus,
Lord Indra was relieved from the sin of Brahmahathya.
