Shiva. Lord Vishnu realized his folly
and worshipped Lord Ganesha and Somaskandhar in this sacred temple. Goddess Sri Parvati was pleased at the
devotion of Lord Vishnu and provided a boon that Mammatha would get his life

The legend has that Sage Brungi,
a zealous devotee of Lord Shiva due to his ignorance worshipped Lord without
giving any importance to Goddess Sri Parvati.
Goddess Sri Parvati was extremely displeased at the act of Sage Brungi
and decided to create an awareness of the existence of Goddess Sri Parvati as
equal half of Lord Shiva. As an initial
step, Goddess Sri Parvati removed the tissues, muscles and blood from the body
of Sage Brungi, but he continued penance and worshipped Lord Shiva. At one point, Sage Brungi was collapsed due
to the absence of power/strength in his body.
The compassionate Lord provided him a leg to stand and supported him. Goddess Sri Parvati and Lord Shiva appeared
in the form of Ardhanareeswara to remove the ignorance of Sage Brungi and
enlightened him the eternal wisdom of Goddess Sri Parvati and Lord Shiva are
the inseparable entities. Sage Brungi
was too adamant to worship anyone other than Lord Shiva took the form of a bee
and started worshipping Lord creating hole in the body part of Ardhanareeswara,
hence he was afflicted with the sin. At
the divine instruction of Lord, Sage Brungi continued austerities and
worshipped Lord Shiva along with Goddess Sri Parvati on this sacred land for a
period Chathuryuga and got relieved from the sin.
