Lord Vishnu worshipped Lord Shiva and attained the most charming Lord Manmatha as his son.  Goddess Sri Parvati was annoyed at this unawareness of Lord Vishnu about the significant form of Lord Shiva as Ardhanareeswara, which affirms the presence of equal half of Goddess Sri Parvati in Lord Shiva.  Goddess Parvati cursed Manmatha that his death would happen in the Jwala Agni of Lord Shiva.  Lord Vishnu realized his folly and worshipped Lord Ganesha and Somaskandhar in this sacred temple.  Goddess Sri Parvati was pleased at the devotion of Lord Vishnu and provided a boon that Mammatha would get his life back again.

Lord Brahma was troubled with the functioning of his responsibility as Creator.  He worshipped Lord Shiva in this sacred temple and attained proficiency in the performance of his work, carried out his work without causing any impediments.

Sannidhis – Lord Ganesha, Lord Nandikeshwara, Lord Subramanya with his consorts Goddesses Sri Valli & Deivayanai,  Panchamoorthis, Lord Nataraja, Bhairava, Lord Vishwanatha & Goddess Sri Visalakshi, Sambandhar, Shaneeswara, Lord Surya, Lord Chandra, stone carving of Anjaneya, Lord Somaskandhar,  Goshtamurtham-Bikshadaneswarar, Lord Ganesha, Lord Dakshinamurthi, Ardhnareeswarar, Goddess Sri Durga, Lord Brahma,

The legend has that Sage Brungi, a zealous devotee of Lord Shiva due to his ignorance worshipped Lord without giving any importance to Goddess Sri Parvati.    Goddess Sri Parvati was extremely displeased at the act of Sage Brungi and decided to create an awareness of the existence of Goddess Sri Parvati as equal half of Lord Shiva.   As an initial step, Goddess Sri Parvati removed the tissues, muscles and blood from the body of Sage Brungi, but he continued penance and worshipped Lord Shiva.  At one point, Sage Brungi was collapsed due to the absence of power/strength in his body.  The compassionate Lord provided him a leg to stand and supported him.  Goddess Sri Parvati and Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Ardhanareeswara to remove the ignorance of Sage Brungi and enlightened him the eternal wisdom of Goddess Sri Parvati and Lord Shiva are the inseparable entities.   Sage Brungi was too adamant to worship anyone other than Lord Shiva took the form of a bee and started worshipping Lord creating hole in the body part of Ardhanareeswara, hence he was afflicted with the sin.  At the divine instruction of Lord, Sage Brungi continued austerities and worshipped Lord Shiva along with Goddess Sri Parvati on this sacred land for a period Chathuryuga and got relieved from the sin.
