The legend has that Panchapandavas during their exile from Hasthinapur, arrived in this sacred land and sanctified 5  Lingas and carried out the worship of Lord Shiva.   Yudhishtira, Arjuna, Bhima, Nakula and Sahadeva worshipped these Lingas as (1) Neelakandeswarar (2) Padikkarainayakar (3) Magadheswarar (4) Parameswarar and (5) Muktheswarar respectively.  Duryodhana, son of Pandu came to know about Panchapandava’s stay in this place and returned with vengeance to take away their life, arrived in this land and muddled up the holy pond with acute poison.  The compassionate mother of Universe Goddess Sri Parvathi estranged the poison from this pond and filled with nectar in its place, hence Lord Shiva consumed all those poison and remained ‘Neelakandeswara’ and Goddess Sri Parvathi  as ‘Amruthavalli’  in this temple.

This temple remains open from 6.30 AM to 11.30 AM in the morning and 4.00 PM to 7.30 PM in the evenings.
