Thirukkurankukka/ Thirukkurankaval is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located in Myladuthurai, Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu.  This is one of the 5 prominent temples of Lord Shiva ending its name with ‘Ka’ and they are: Thiruvanaikka, Thirukkodikka, Thirunellikka, Thirkolakka and Thirukkurankukka.

The legend has the Lord Rama instructed Anjaneya to bring Linga from the Himalayas to conduct worship of Lord Shiva at Rameshwaram.   Anjaneya was unable to deliver the same within the specified hours of installation.  Goddess Sita constructed a Linga with the raw sand was sanctified in the auspicious hours and the rituals were carried out successfully by Lord Rama.  Anjaneya was distraught at this incident, had a wish to sanctify the Linga brought from Himalays, he tried to pull out the Linga with his tail which was already consecrated.  During this practice, Anjaneya’s tail got severed.   Lord Rama advised Ajaneya to worship Lord Shiva to get rid of the sin.   Eventually, Lord Anjaneya arrived on this sacred place and sanctified a Linga and worshipped Lord Shiva.

 
 

This temple remains open from 6.30 AM to 11.30 AM in the morning and 4.30 PM to 7.30 PM in the evenings.
