Thirukkanar is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located in Thirukkanar, Thiruvanur District, Tamil Nadu.




Presiding deity – Sri Parijathavaneswarar/ Kanarmunainatheswarar with his consort Goddess Sri Amuthavalli/Ilamkompanal

The legend has that Sage Durvassa was came to know about the Ananda Thandavam of Lord witnessed by Sage Pathanjali and Vyagrapadha, instantaneously Sage Durvassa also had the yearning to envision the same.   He realized the splendor of this sacred place and arrived here with the highly admired Parijatham flower from Devaloka.  He planted this propitious plant and taken good care of the same, gradually Parijatha garden into Parijatha Vanam.  Shortly, Sage Durvassa consecrated a Linga and installed under the Parijatha tree, with the assistance of Devadatha a worship place was constructed in its place.  Lord was pleased at the devotion and dedication of Sage Durvassa and revealed one of his cosmic dance forms Piramathandavam to Sage.  This is one of the 8 prominent temples of Lord Shiva famously known for Thandava Sthalam.

 
 

This temple remains open from 7.00 AM to 11.30 AM in the morning and 5.00PM to 7.30PM in the evenings.
