Vadapazhani Thiru Dandayudhapani Temple is one of the famous temples of Lord Subramanya located in Chennai, (historical name – Kodalampakkam) Tamil Nadu.  The initial steps to build this temple were performed diligently by Thiru Annaswami Thambiran, a zealous devotee of Lord Subramanya some 125 years back.  Thirumuruga Krupananda Variyarswamigal was  responsible for the entire expansions of this prominent temple.

According to the temple sthalapurana, Thiru Annaswami Thambiran was a passionate devotee of Lord Subramanya lived here and worshipped Lord.  He had no means to build a temple, so he constructed a hut, within that meticulously arranged the picture of Lord and carried out daily worship.  Soon, he gained a divine power in him to foresee the happenings those were true to his words.  This incident attracted lots of crowd at this site and they were turned out ardent devotees of Lord Subramanya.  Thiru Annaswami Thambiran visited Thiruthani while he was sick, he earnestly prayed to Lord and got rid of the illness.  While his journey to Pazhani one of the famous six holy Abodes of Lord, Thiru Annaswami Thambiran experienced many mystic incidents.  He continued the worship of Lord in his small hut, when he came to know that the death was nearer him, he instructed his close friend Sri Ratna Swami to resume the worship.  Shortly, Sri Ratna Swami gained the spiritual powers and started to foretell the incidents.  He built a small shrine as promised to his friend with the popularity and the wealth earned.  This whole scenario was repeated once again.  There appeared Thirumuruga Krupanandavariyar Swamigal, a passionate devotee and a brilliant orator who was mesmerized a large number of people with his spiritual lectures took the responsibility of building a magnificent temple in its place. 


 
 

This temple remains open from 5.00 AM to 12.00PM in the morning and 4.00PM to 9.00PM in the evenings.
