The legend has that Sage Nidhruva and his chaste wife Vedhika lived on this sacred land that was full of jasmine creepers.  This pious couple had no offspring for quite some time.  They sought the advice of Sage Gautama and underwent severe austerities praying to Lord Shiva and Goddess Sri Parvati.    In due course of time, Vedhika conceived a child.   One day, Sage Nidhruva had to leave the village for some reason so he left behind his wife as she was pregnant with their child.  Vedhika was left alone in the hermitage; slowly she drifted to sleep due to physical fatigue.   At that moment, there arrived Sage Urdhavapadha and found this attractive hermitage surrounded by jasmine creepers.  The front door was wide open so he raised voice in anticipation but no one answered to him.  Sage Urdhavapadha throw a look inside the hermitage and found a woman was in her deep sleep.   He was enraged at the careless attitude of the woman and cursed her.  In fact, Vedhika was undergoing excruciating pain and was traumatized at the thought of losing her child.  She earnestly prayed to Goddess Sri Parvati to save her child.  The most compassionate mother of the Universe took the form of Goddess Sri Garbarakshambika and saved the embryo carrying in a divine pot.  Surprisingly, the fetus turned into a fully grown healthy baby.   The divine cow Kamadhenu created a pond of milk ‘Ksheerakund’ for the new born.  The couple sincerely prayed to Goddess Garbarakshambika to remain on this sacred land forever.

Worship of Lord Mullaivananathar with his consort Goddess Sri Garbarakshambika provides virtuous offspring and eradicates all the difficulties during the child birth.

This temple remains open from 6.30 AM to 12.30 PM  in the morning and 4.00 PM to 8.00PM in the evenings.
