Sri Subramanya Swamy/Then Thanigai Temple is one of the oldest temples of Lord
Subramanya located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The temple inscriptions reveal the contributions made by the
Nayakas. This unique temple was built by
King Kulothunga Chola II, positioned at the top of a small hill with 84 stairs
of flight.

the sanctum sanctorum the idol of Lord Subramanya with his consorts Sri Valli
& Deivayanai gives out a unique view.
Lord Subramanya can be seen with his single consort from both the ways
of left or right at the entrance.

The
legend has that after vanquished the demon Tharakasura while proceeding to
Thiruthani Lord Subramanya installed a Linga and worshipped Lord Shiva on this
sacred land. Later, King Kulothunga
Chola II built a magnificent temple on its place at the top of the hill.
This
temple remains open from 6.30 PM to 12.30 PM in the morning and 4.00 PM to
7.30PM in the evenings.
