Munaiaduvar Nayanar was born in Thirunidur, one of the villages located on the
river banks of Cauvery in Chozha Kingdom.
He was a passionate devotee of Lord Shiva and was a fearless and gifted warrior
by profession. In this way, he earned
abundance of wealth which was aptly utilized for the service of Lord and his
devotees. His self-less service to Lord
and his devotees made him powerful fighter against his enemies. He gloriously returned from each battlefield
and accumulated loads of wealth. Thiru Munaiaduvar Nayanar tirelessly served
the devotees with food and necessities with the wealth he had gained. He found immense pleasure in serving them
with delicious meal and forgot his own hunger. He continued his invaluable service to Lord
and his devotees for several years. Lord
was pleased at the devotion and dedication of Thiru Munaiaduvar Nayanar and blessed
him with salvation.
In the Tamil
month Punguni – Pusam is widely celebrated as Guru Puja day of Thiru
Munaiaduvar Nayanar, the day he attained the Abode of Lord Shiva.
