Thiru Appanur is one of the 275 Thevara
Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located on the river banks of Vaigai, Madurai, Tamil
Nadu. This is one of the oldest temples
of Lord Shiva built in Dravidian Architectural style by the Pandya Kings. In this temple Lord Shiva worshipped in the
form of a self-manifested Linga.

The legend has that Lord Somasundareswarar and
Goddess Meenkashi was ruled this prominent city of Madurai for several
years. During their regime, they were
stupendously protected their Kingdom and its people from all evil forces with
their divine powers.
This temple remains open from 6.00AM to 11.00AM
in the morning and 5.00PM to 8.00PM in the evenings.
