108 Divya Desams !! Thiruthankal Sri Nindra Narayana Perumal Temple !!

Thiruthankal is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu located in Shvakasi, Virudunagar, Tamil Nadu. 





Presiding deity – Moolavar Thiru Nindra Narayana Perumal /Sri Ranganathar with his consort Goddess Sri Semkamala Valli Thayar/Anantha Nayaki/Amrutha Nayaki.  At the foot of the hill positioned the temple of Thirukolaperumal.




Theertham – Papavinasa Theertham, Bhaskara Theertham, Sanghu Theertham, Arjuna Theertham, Padma Theertham




Vimanam – Devachandra Vimanam/Somaskandha Vimanam




Mangalasasanam – Thirumangai Alwar and Boothathalwar




Prathyaksham to – Sri Devi Nachiyar, Thiru Vallabha Devar




Festivals – Vaikasi Brahmostavam, Thiru Adi Pooram, Vaikundha Ekadashi





Significance – Anirudha, grandson of Lord Krishna married to Usha, daughter of demon Banasura on this sacred land.  King Chandraketu got rid from the curse and attained salvation.





Sannidhis – Sri Garudalwar,  Perumal with his consorts Goddess Sri Devi, Boodevi, Niladevi, Jambavathi, Sage Markandeya, Sage Brighu, Vishwakarma, Anirudha & Usha,





There are interesting myths attached to this temple, Lord Ranganatha stayed on this sacred land on his way to Sri Villiputhur to meet Periyalwar and his daughter Sri Andal.   Another legend has that Sri Devi, Boodevi and Niladevi Nachiyar had an argument about their supremacy.  Consequently Sri Devi Thayar left the Abode of Sriman Narayana and settled on this sacred land.  Soon after, she worshipped Lord on this sacred land and regained her position in Sri Vaikundham.





This temple remains open from 6.30AM to 11.30AM in the morning and 4.30AM to 7.30AM in the evenings.
