Thiruvelvikudi is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalams
of Lord Shiva situated on the river banks of Cauvery in Mayavaram, Nagapattinam
District, Tamil Nadu.
This is one of the oldest temples built during
the Chola dynasty. The temple inscriptions
reveal the dates back to the great rulers of King Paranthaka Chola and King
Rajaraja Chola.

his consort Goddess Thiru Parimalasugandha Nayaki

The legend has that Goddess Parvati turned out a
cow at the curse of Lord Shiva. She came
down to the Earth and worshipped Lord Shiva by pouring out her milk on a Linga. Lord Shiva was pleased at the devotion of
Goddess Parvati and married to her at Thirumancheri which is close to
Thiruvelvikudi. Consequently, all the
marriage rites were performed on the sacred land of Thiruvelvikudi and the
celestial marriage of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati took place in Thirumancheri.
Worship of Lord Kalyana Sundareswarar and his
consort Goddess Sri Parimalasugandha Nayaki removes delay in marriages and
provides good physical & mental health.
This temple remains open from 6.00 AM to 12.00PM
in the morning and 4.00PM to 8.00PM in the evenings.
