Significance of the temple is that Lord Muruga quizzically asked Sri Avvayar - famous Tamil Poet– ‘Sutta Pazham Venuma Sudatha Pazham Venuma’, through this amusing question Lord gave a factual lesson to human beings that all lives on the Earth are strangled with bondages.  Inorder to get rid of this material bondages one has to acquire true knowledge that would be possible only through self – realization and God – realization.

The sthala Vruksham is Naval Maram.  The fruit of this tree are favorites of Lord Ganesha, which usually bears fruits and ripen only in the Tamil month Adi or Avani.  In this temple, Naval tree bears fruit and ripen in the month of Aippasi commonly known as Shashti Masam.

Noopura Ganaga –Kshetra Pushkarani is situated atop the hill.  It is believed that, Sri Ilangovan wrote the famous scripture Silappathikaram sitting on the Madhavi Mandapam near the spring.

Festivals are: Panguni Uthiram, Skandha Shashti, Vaikasi Vishakam, Thiru Karthikai.
