Lord Trivikrama is the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.  King Mahabali – Grandson of Prahlada was a righteous ruler and an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu.  He defeated Lord Indra and confiscated the entire worlds.   Thus, Lord Indra and the deities lost their powers and glories.  They approached Lord Brahma and explained their pathetic state. Finally, Lord Brahma suggested approaching Lord Vishnu to resolve the issue.  Inorder to save the deities and Lord Indra, to reinstate their past glories Lord Vishnu born to Sage Kashyapa and Aditi.   Lord Vishnu incarnated as dwarf – Vamana.

The demon King Mahabali conducted a Yaga in a grand scale.  Lord Vamana appeared in the Yaga arena, clad in white clothes, with an umbrella over his head and a pitcher on his hand. King Mahabali was astounded at the divinity of the Brahmachari and resemblance of thousand adityas on his face.  King Mahabali received the Brahmachari with utmost reverence.  He revealed his desire to offer wealth; jewels, land and precious ornaments as alms to Brahmachari.   Lord Vamana graciously refused to accept anything as alms other than three footsteps of land measured by his tiny feet.  It brought laughter in everyone’s face in the assembly of King except Shukracharya.  Raja Guru – Shukracharya realized the real nature of Brahmachari.  Shukracharya took Mahabali secretly from the assembly to have a confidential   discussion.  He tried all means to convince King Mahabali that the Brahmachari is none other than Lord Vishnu.  Shukracharya persuaded the King not to offer any alms to Brahmachari.  King Mahabali was in dilemma, he revealed his intention that he does not want to keep away from his promise to Brahmachari in the first place.  He also added that he is more willing to offer anything to his Lord.  Out of humiliation Shukracharya cursed King Mahabali that he would lose his Kingdom and glories at the very moment.

King Mahabali performed the formal procedure of donating alm to a Brahmin.  His wife Vindyavali dutifully followed King Mahabali in the process.  Shukracharya played a trick in order to stop King Mahabali from the act, he disguised himself into a bee and wedged on the mouth of the pitcher.  Vindyavali held the pitcher contained water, while pouring water from the pitcher find something has blocked the free flow of water from it. The Brahmachari took a Dharba grass and pierced on the blockage deliberately.   Shukracharya shuddered in pain and lost his one eye.  Vindyavali poured water from the pitcher, it started to flow smoothly.  The Brahmachari took his gigantic form, He measured the heaven with his first step, He covered the Rasathala with the second and the compassionate Lord asked King Mahabali where to place his third feet?  King Mahabali graciously bow down his head to place Lord’s feet.

In this temple Sri Ulagalanda Perumal Sri Trivikrama Perumal, the presiding deity is in a gigantic form, beneath His right foot King Mahabali also can be seen, just behind positioned are the Utsavamurty of Perahathan with Aranavalli, Amrutha Valli, and Ananda Valli Nachiyar.
