We a group of four people – My Mom and my family left Chennai early in the morning by car.  On our way, I received a call from my mentor and a close family friend.

‘Hey engadi irukka?’  I said I am on my way to Kanchi.  She said ‘ Nee oru vela pannu.  Poyi Pandava Dhoothar Perumal and Ulagalanda Perumal rendu kovilum pathu va.  Approma engittey sollu. Okay bye.’

Sri Pandava Dhootha Perumal Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu situated in Kanchi.  This is one of the oldest temples built during the chola Dynasty by King Kulothunga Chola I.  The presidig deity of the temple Sri Pandava Dhoothar is in a huge form called Vishwaroopam of Lord Krishna.  The 25 Ft idol of Lord Krishna is in sitting posture facing east.

Sage Vaishambhayana describes to King Janamejaya about Lord Krishna’s journey as a diplomat of Pandavas to Hastinapur, the assembly of King Duryodhana.   The purpose of Lord’s visit to the court of   King Duryodhana was to bring justice in the life of Pandavas who were exiled from their Kingdom.  Lord arrived at the court of Duryodhana in order to re-establish the righteousness.  Duryodhana made a treacherous plot against Krishna.  He constructed an ornate chair made of Bamboo; beneath the throne he had arranged mighty warriors to kill Krishna.  The knower of All – The Supreme Lord took the seat graciously which was offered by Duryodhana.  Lord occupied the seat amiably and assumed a huge form – Vishwaroopa and the mighty warriors crushed under His weight.

The presiding deity of the Temple – Lord Krishna can be seen in his Vishwaroopa, an idol of 25ft just behind the Utsava Murthy of Lord Krishna with His consorts Sri Rukmini and Sri Sathyabhama.

The temple remains open from morning 7.00AM to 11.00 PM and 4.00 PM to 7.30PM in the evening.

Jai Shri Krishna !!
