Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara !!

Sri Jagadguru Bodhendra Swamigal was born to Sri Kesava Pandurangan and Sugunambal, a childless couple for several years.  Sri Bodhendra Swamigal was born during the period of 17th-18th century in Kanchipuram -  known as one of Moksha Sthal.

Sri Kesava Pandurangan and Sugunambal had no offspring for quite some time.   The couples were distressed at the thought of no successor to follow their family custom and rites.  They approached their Acharya Sri Vishwadhikendra Saraswathy Swamigal, Pontiff of Kanchi Mutt.  They prayed to Him, as there is one saying ‘Guru Arul Illayel Thiruvarul Illai’, (Where there is No blessings of Guru, there will not be any Grace of Lord too ) the couple received blessings from their Acharya.  In due course of time, with the blessings of their Acharya, Sugunambal gave birth to a beautiful boy child.   They named the child – Purushothaman.  Years passes by, the couple performed Purushothaman’s Brahmopadhesham (sacred thread ceremony).  Purushothaman was a studious child with full of magnanimous amount of energy.   The couple brought Purushothaman to seek the blessings of their Acharya.  After seeing the brilliance in the child, Sri Vishwadhikendra Saraswathy Swamigal enquired ‘Who is this child?’ to  Kesava Pandurangan and Sugunambal.   The couple replied ‘It is your child, Guru’.   Sri Vishwadhikendra Saraswathy Swamigal trickily shot back with another question ‘In that case this child belongs to Mutt Isn’t it?’.  Kesava Pandurangan startled at this statement of Acharya.  He hesitated to reply anything for quite some time and most unwillingly he answered that he wanted to discuss with his wife before come into any conclusion.  He turned back to look at his wife’s face, she was weeping silently with lot of pain and emotions flickering through her face.  Kesava Pandurangan had mistaken at Sugunambal’s reactions.  He thought that his wife would not allow him to give away the child as he was the one and only to carry out the family heritage.  But, Kesava Pandurangan got thunderstruck at his wife’s reply that she was not worried or disinclined to give away the child to their Acharya and Mutt.  She continued, the reply of her husband to their Acharya made her feel terrible.  She firmly revealed that they are belonged to Acharya and the Mutt, and will remain the same.  The couple gave away their one and only child to Sri Vishwadhikendra Saraswathy Swamigal and Mutt to receive Sanyasa.

Will be continued.......
