Sri Guru Purnima falls on
a pournami day in the month Ashada. This is an auspicious day in which
Maharishi Krishna Dwaipayana Veda Vyasa was born to Rishi Parasarar and
Satyavati, His mother (Matsya Kanyaka) was belonged to fishermen clan.
Maharishi Veda Vyasa
classified the vast spiritual knowledge of Veda into four categories namely
Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharvana. It was previously initiated into 1131 Sakhas by
Maharishi Angira. Maharishi Veda Vyasa classified the total Sakhas into
four - Rig Veda contains 21 Sakahs, Yajur Veda contains 101 Sakhas, Sama
Veda contains 1000 Sakhas and Atharvana Veda contains 9 Sakhas respectively.
Later, these compilations of Vedas were entrusted to his strict
disciple for the welfare of the mankind. The four disciples
were allocated with each Vedas, Paila assigned with Rig
Veda, Vaishampayana entrusted with Yajur Veda, Maharishi Jaimini assigned to
Sama Veda, Sumantu undertook the custody of Atharvana Veda. In
addition to this, Maharishi Veda Vyasa wrote 18 puranas and Upa Puranas
including the great Epic Mahabharatha, Srimad Bhagavadam and Brahma –
Sutras for the above mentioned classifications of Veda.
Guru – Acharya is the one
who removes the darkness of ignorance/Maya (illusions) and leads to the path
through the Self-realization to God – realization. The
Acharya is the one who impart the true knowledge and fully aware of the truth
and existence of Supreme Lord, ultimately where there is no lust, anger, pride
and jealous prevailed. He personifies wisdom, devotion, dedication,
peace, self-less act, self- control and high tolerance level.
