Skanda Puranam describes the glory of Lord Amareshwara –( Lord Shiva ) in Amaravati . This temple is situated in Vijayavada, Andhra Pradesh on the river banks of Krishna. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Amareshwara worshipped in the form of white marble linga of 15 ft tall with His consort Bala Chamundi. Maharishi Narada explains the significance of this sacrosanct place ‘Amaravati’ and Lord Amareshwara to Sanakadi Kumaras. Whoever worship Lord Amareshwara and take dip in the holy river Krishna acquire liberation from the cycles of Birth and Death and attain ‘Shivaloka’ – The Abode of Lord Shiva.
