Jai Sriman Narayana !!
The celebration of
Ganga Dussehra continues for ten days, this splendid worship of holy river/river
of life Ganga ends on a Sukhla Paksha Dasami in the month of Jyeshta.
During these days,
holy dip in the sacred river Ganga eradicates all the sins committed in one’s
life, so it has known by the name ‘Papamochani’. This day treated as the
most propitious to perform homage to ancestors and offering charity and
donating alms abundantly to Vedic Brahmins on this day would bring abundance of
merits. Offerings of Sandals, Umbrella, Clothes, Food etc.. to the
Brahmin priests and engage in divine deeds like creating well, Pond,
construction and renovation of temples etc.. would provide highest of the pieties.
Ganga Dussehra
commemorates the severe penance undertaken by the King Bhagiratha , great grandson
of King Sagara from Ikshvaku Dynasty . King Bhagiratha undertook
severe austerities to bring his ancestors back into life. As
instructed by Lord Brahma, King Bhagirath underwent severe penance praying to Lord Vishnu
for releasing Ganga from Lord's toe, the deities requested Lord Shiva to
protect the Universe from the powerful current of river Ganga while descending
to Earth. Eventually, the river of Life
Ganga was gracefully carried on the matted hair locks of Lord Shiva.
Further, Ganga benevolently paved her way through the various plateaus
to flourish life on the Earth.
