Sri Sankara was born to Sri Sivaguru and Aryamba, a numboothiri - Brahmin couple in Kaladi, Kerala.  Sri Sankara born to this childless couple after many years of prayer to Lord Shiva of Sri Vadakkunatha Temple, Trichur.   At a tender age of three, Sankara lost his father.  At the age of five Sankara had Brahmopadesham, by the age of eight he became scholar in four Vedas.

Sri Sankara had an inclination towards 'Sanyasa' from an young age.  Aryamba was very passionate about her son, especially after the death of Sri Siva Guru.  She wished for the presence of her son throughout her life.   After continuous persuasion over his mother and an overwhelming  incident in Sankara's life made Aryamba to give her consent to accept Sanyasa.    While bathing in a river, crocodile got hold of  Sankara's leg firmly.   Sankara's  shrieking voice to his mother for saving from the clutches of the crocodile and he made his mother to understand the truth that if she allowed him to accept sanyasa instantaneously it would become his re- birth which would help him to get release from the clutches of the crocodile.    In order to save her son's life Aryamba readily gave her consent for his son's long cherished desire for Sanyasa .   Sankara  accepted Sanyasa and started his spiritual journey to North, in search of an 'Acharaya'.

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara !!
