Srimad Bhagavatham – Sapthama Skandam – Chapter Eight describes the glory of  Sri Nrusimha the Fourth Incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Maharishi Veda Vyasa explains the reason for Lord Vishnu’s  Narasimha Avatar.  Lord Vishnu incarnated as Half- Lion  Half – man not only for beheading the demon King Hiranyakashipu, but also for release His ‘Nija Bruthyas’ – Jaya and Vijaya from the curses of Sanakadi Munishwara.  According to the curse of ‘Sanakadikal’ Jaya and Vijaya take birth in the linage of Demons for three times and would be killed by Lord Hari.  Thereby, they would attain the Heavenly Abode of Lord Sri Hari.

The Demon King Hiranyakaship underwent severe penance to please Lord Brahma.  Lord Brahma delighted at the devotion of Hiranyakashipu and offered several boons.  Hiranyakashipu requested Lord Brahma the following as boons: He cannot be killed by any human being or animal, most importantly by any of the creatures created by Lord Brahma.  He cannot be killed inside his palace or outside and last but not the least he should not be killed in day or night time.  Lord Brahma offered the boon and left.

Once Hiranyakashipu retorted  ‘I would die only because of enmity towards my son – Prahaladha’ (Chapter 5/Sl. 47).  It added the responsibility of Lord Vishnu’s to make his ‘Nijabruthyas’ words into reality.

While Prahalada was in his mother’s womb Maharishi Narada told to Lord Indra ‘This child is the most blessed one and an ardent devotee of Lord Sri Hari.  Indra, you cannot kill this child’. (Chapter 7/Sl. 10).

Though Lord Vishnu had the above said responsibilities to perform, He had to follow (‘Nijabashitham’ ) his own words.  Once Lord Krishna advised Arjuna in the holy land of Kurushektra through Srimad Bhagavad Gita ‘Koutheya Prathi Janiji Na Mey Bhaktha: Pranashyathi.

Jaya Jaya Narasimha !!

Jai Sriman Narayana !!
