Varaha Puranam describes the origin of Someshwar Linga at Somnath Temple .
Lord Chandra who installed the Linga and underwent severe penance to get relieved from the curse of his father-in – Law (Daksha Prajapathi). At the request of Chandra, Lord Shiva decided to dwell on the Linga and blessed Him. There is a Pushkarani on the South of Someshwar Temple. It is believed that whoever take holy dip in this theertham liberates from the cycles of Birth and Death.
