Ugadi is celebrated on the bright fortnight - Shukla Paksha of the month Chaitra. The first season of the year 'Vasantha - Ritu' - Spring also falls on this month. The significance of the month is that Lord Brahma started His 'Creation' on this day of ' Chaitra Shuddha Padhyami' / 'Ugadi' also known as 'Telegu New Year Day'. Traditionally, the 'Panchanga Sravanam', listening to the auspicious upcoming events, strength and effects of various constellation while its transition, in the yearly calender at the temple premises also held on this day. The Scriptures state that the benefits reaped by the reader as well as the listener by the 'Panchanga Sravanam' are equvalent to holy dip in the sacred waters of Ganges.
Ugadi is widely celebrated in the states of Andhara Pradesh and Karnataka, in the state of Maharashtra it is known as 'Gudi Paduwa' . As a part of the fesitivies, the houses are decorated with Rangoli, mango leaves, special rituals are conducted to avail the blessings of the Lord on the New Year's Day.
The special delicacies of this day are 'Ugadi Pacchadi' a mixture of sweet (Jaggery) and Bitter (Neem flower, raw mango, tamarind) to reveal the beautiful essence of life. The delicacies of Andra Pradesh are 'pulihora' and 'Bobbatlu', in Karnataka it is called ' Puliogure' and 'Holige'. Maharashtrians prepare the delicious 'Sweet Puran Poli'.
