There are four Yugas - Kritha Yuga, Thretha Yuga, Dwapara Yuga and Kaliyuga.  Lord Vishnu’s incarnation as Lord Rama and Lord Krishna took place in Threytha Yuga and Dwapara Yuga respectively.  During those Yugas, the worship of Lord was possible only through Yaga, Yagna and Tapasya and these were required lots and lots of time and efforts. After seeing the pains involved in conducting an Yagna and Yaga and the time limits etc..  The Rishis and Sages prayed to Lord that they desired to take re-birth in Kali Yuga to worship him in a better and easier way.  The significance of Kaliyuga is that worship of Lord is much easier and effective than the other Yugas.   In this Yuga, Lord will be pleased at his devotees easily with His Namasmaran/Nama Sankeerthanam.  Sruthi, Smruthi, Ithihasam, Puranam all speaks about the glories of Supreme Lord and were establshed by Him.  Though the sacred scriptures Veda, Sruthi, Smrithi, Puranam and Upanishads everything talk elaborately about Lord, unfortunately it is not possible for a common man to understand the depth of it.

Lord Krishna says to Maharishi Narada:

Na Aham Vasami Vaikundhey Na Yogi Hrudaye Ravou
Math Bathktha  Yathra Gayanathi Thathra Thishatami Narada:

He does not reside in Vaikundham, He does not live in the heart of Yogis and He constantly resides where His devotees sing Nama Sankeerthanam and praise the glories of Him. He stands and watches his devotees obediently with His hands folded in the places where Nama Sankeerthanam takes place.  He requires only Love and Faith of His worshipper.

Sage Agastya praises the glory of Hari Nama Sankeerthanam:

‘Padiyellam Kadanthu Suddha Brahma Vasthu Vaka Irunthu
Bajanayal Makizhthu Thondrum Karunai Moorthiye
Om Namo Narayanaya Om Namo Namo’.

Adi sankara says ‘Knowledge is Brahma’, He instructs us to use the knowledge to learn and love the Supreme Lord.  In Kali Yuga, life will not be easy; there will be no morality or respect exists.   Adi Sankara pronounce that you may be Superior or Inferior, You may be Rich or Poor, You are a Man or Woman, you have already Born or Yet to take Birth, one thing is certain that death is definite, in a short span of life time you have no choice other than to think of Supreme Lord who has created You.  The self – realization and God realization is possible only through knowledge.   Nothing in this Universe can protect you other than the Supreme Lord.

Adi Sankara wrote:

‘Baja Govindam Baja Govindam Govindam Baja Moodamathey
Samprapthey kaley nahi nahi rakshathy drunjunkaraney
Baja Govindam Baja Govindam’ Govindam Baja Moodamathey

Adi Sankara all through his compositions instructs us to praise the glory of Lord Govinda.  In this Kali Yuga singing and praising his glories   provides abundance of merits and Lord Hari resides where there is continuous reverberation of Nama sankeerthanam takes place.

 Radhey Krishna !!
