Vasanta Panchami is 'Spring'
season also known as Magh Shukla Panchami. It is
believed that Lord Shiva was burnt Lord Kamadeva into ashes on this day.
Lord Shiva personified as Lord Dakshinamurthi and underwent severe penance, abstaining
from his duty as the destroyer of Sins. Thus, the entire Universe was
accumulated with the sinners, the deities were extremely anxious about Lord
Shiva's deep meditation. In the meantime, demon Tharakasura
meditated upon Lord Brahma and received various boons. Immediately after obtaining the boon,
Tharakasura started harassing the sages and deities with his demonic
power. It was quite evident that Tharakasura could be killed only by the
son of Lord Shiva. In order to get back Lord Shiva from
his severe penance, Lord Kamadeva played a trick. At the
end, Lord Kamadeva was burnt by Lord Dakshinamurty.
