Ratha Sapthami !!

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Worship of Lord Surya and fasting on this day of Ratha Sapthami brings abundance of merits and it also eradicates the sin of Brahma Hathya.  It is believed that whoever worships Lord Surya on this day with utmost devotion would be blessed and treated as highly meritorious action.

The devoutness earned through the worship of Lord Surya with complete fiath and devotion on this day of Ratha Sapthami is capable for a Brahmin to reside in the celestial world in his next birth.  A Kshatriya turns out  a Brahmin in his next birth, Vaishya and Shudra turn into Kshatriya and Vaishya respectively.  Performing ablations before sunrise on this day is equalvalent to holy dip in River Ganges.

There was a righteous king named Yesodhavarman who was ruled the city of Kamboj.  He had no heirs to rule after him.  He was deeply anxious about this and prayed to Lord Surya.   In due course of time, Yesodhavarman’s wife gave birth to a boy child with the blessings of the Lord Surya.  Unfortunately, the child was sick by birth.  The King approached several eminent scholars of Vaidhya Sastra to get his child back to normalcy but everything turned out futile.

One day, Sage Vineeth appeared before the King Yesodhavarman,  as he was a Trikalajyani (who could foresee the past, present and future) could sense the reason for the distress of the King.  The Sage explained the King about the reason why his son was born sick by birth.  In his previous birth, the child was a rich man who was neither followed any righteousness nor gave any alms to poor Brahmins.   In this birth, he was born as the son of a righteous King Yesodhavarman with the merits he had acquired through witnessing the Ratha Sapthami rituals in his previous birth.  The Sage advised the son of King Yesodhavarman to fast on the day of Ratha Sapthami and worship Lord Surya with utmost devotion.  At last, son of Yesodhavarman faithfully observed fast as instructed by the Sage and recovered from his  illness.
