Thiruvannamalai is one of the Pancha Bhootha Kshetram of Lord Shiva represent as Fire, one of the five elements of nature.  The practice of circumambulation of the temple and the mountain Annamalai with bare foot known as Girivalam, one of the effective and superior forms of Yoga considered as a sacred deed.   The Worship of Ashta Linga such as Indra Linga, Agni Linga, Yama Linga, Niruthi Linga, Varuna Linga, Vayu Linga, Kubera Linga, Esanya Linga installed by Lord Indra, Lord Agani, Lord Yama, Lord Nirthi, Lord Varuna, Lord Vayu, Lord Kubera and Lord Esanya respectively, located 14km circumference of the hill provides abundance of devoutness to the worshipper.   This holy hill of Thiruvannamalai was a symbol of ‘Fire’ in Kritha Yuga, Emerald in Thretha Yuga, Gold in Dwapara Yuga and it represents rock in Kaliyuga.  There are Eight Lingas known as Ashta Linga located on the eight directions in octagonal structure on the circumambulatory ways worshipped by the deities.  This circumambulation path ways is extended up to the length of 14km, considered as magnificent Abode of Siddhars and holy men.  Worshippers undertake the practice of circumambulation of the hill on the day of full moon/Purnima considered as one of the most propitious act, provides commendable rewards.
 
Worship of Indra Linga installed by Lord Indra provides longevity and fame.
 
Worship of Agni Linga installed by Lord Indra cures all the incurables and removes fear.


Worship of Yama Linga installed by Lord Yama provides longevity.
 
Worship of Niruthi Linga installed by Niruthi provides Good Health, Wealth, Fame and progeny.
 
Worship of Varuna Linga installed by Lord Varuna provides Good Health.
 
Worship of Vayu Linga installed by Lord Vayu provides Good Health.
 
Worship of Kubera Linga installed by Lord Kubera provides affluence.
 
Worship of Esanya Linga installed by Lord Esanya provides peace of mind.
