Thiruramanatheecharam / Thirukannapuram is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located in Nannilam, Thiruvanur, Tamil Nadu.  The temple inscriptions reveal the contributions made by King Kulothunga Chozha, Vikramaditya (Thirumalai Thevar Maharayan’s officer of Royal administration).  In this temple Lord Shiva worshipped in the form of a self-manifested Linga.

Lord Rama vanquished the demon King Ravana and several demons in the fierce battle in Lanka; soon Lord Rama was afflicted with the sin of Brahmahathya.  In order to get rid of the sin, Lord Rama visited Rameshwaram and worshipped Lord Ramanathaswamy.  On his way back to Ayodhya, Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva in several sacred lands on Earth.  This is one of the sacred lands where Lord Rama, Goddess Sita & Lakshman arrived in a forest of Kadamba, there Lord Rama found a self- manifested Linga and prepared to worship Lord Shiva.  Lord Nandikeshwara got in the way Rama, assuming him as ordinary human being sand created obstruction in the worship of the Linga.  Soon, the compassionate Mother of the Universe, Goddess Sri Parvati blocked Lord Nandikeshwara from his action and appeared before Lord Rama.  Later, Lord Rama took holy dip in the pond situated, worshipped Lord Shiva and proceeded to Ayodhya.  Hence the presiding deity assumed the name Ramanatheeswarar.
 
This temple remains open from 6.30 AM to 11.30 AM in the morning and 4.00 PM to 8.00 PM in the evenings.
