Thirupporur/Yuddhapuri/Samarapuri/Poriyur is one of the Abhimana Kshetram of Lord Subramanya located in Chengalpet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.  This is one of the oldest temples of Lord Subramanya famous for its exquisite paintings and stunning sculptural work were built by the Kings of Pallava Dynasty.  The temple inscriptions reveal the contribution made by King Vikrama Chola and King Narasimha Varma II.  Lord Subramanya is worshipped as a self-manifested idol found from the forest of Palmyra trees was sanctified and the temple was renovated by Sri Chidambaram Swamigal.  The daily rituals and religious services to Lord Subramanya was initiated by Sri Chidambaram Swamigal was further carried out by his descendents.

Significance:

Lord Subramanya vanquished the demon Soorapadman at Thiruchendur and rest of the demons in this sacred land.  Immediately after beheading the demon Lord Subramanya was afflicted with the sin so he underwent severe austerities and worshipped Lord Shiva to get rid of the same.

 

Lord Vishnu and Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi arrived on this sacred land and worshipped Lord Shiva at Pranavamalai situated here to get rid of the curse from Sage Kanva,

 

Lord Subramanya pronounced the quintessence of Pranava Mantra to Sage Agastya and deities. Hence, the hill behind this sacred temple is known as Pranavamalai.

 

Lord Subramanya with his consorts Goddess Sri Valli & Deivayanai granted protection to the deities.

 

This temple remains open from 6.00 AM to 12.00 PM in the morning and 4.30 PM to 8.00 PM in the evenings.
