Jai Sriman Narayana !!
Sri Goswami Tulasi
Das was born to a pious Sarayuparin Brahmin couple Hulsi Devi and Atmaram Dubey
0n a Shravan Shukla Paksha Sapthami day in
the year 1532 (16th Century) in Rajapur which is 200km east of
Allahabad, in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh.
Its believed that Sri Goswami Tulsidas was an incarnation of Maharishi Valmiki,
composer of the great epic ‘ Srimad Ramayanam’. ‘Sri
Ramacharita Manas’ was written by Sant Tulsidas.
As Sri Goswami
Tulsidas was born in an inauspicious day of Shravan Shukla Paksha Saptami, there
was an old belief existed in those days that the child born on this day would
bring unexpected death to it parents. The parents of Tulsidas were very poor, did not
find any means to conduct the ‘Namakaran’/naming ceremony of the child.
Shortly, his mother passed away and his father abandoned the baby due to his irrational
beliefs. The baby boy was brought up by Chuniya, the female servant of Hulsa,
till the age of five. After the death of his foster mother
Chuniya, unfortunate Tulsidas continued to wander here and there for food and
occasionally taking shelter in a Hanuman Temple.
