Kshetram/Rudrapuri Thiru Adikesava Perumal Temple is located in Mylapore,
Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This is one of the
oldest temples of Lord Vishnu was built by Hoysala King Krishnadevaraya with a marvelous
touch of Vijayanagara architectural style.

Life of Thiru Pey Azhwar:

Chandra, Lord Surya, Lord Shiva
Lord Surya underwent severe
austerities and worshipped Lord Vishnu to get rid of the sins. Lord was pleased at the devotion of Lord
Surya and alleviated his sufferings.
Hence the presiding deity has got the name Adi Kesava Perumal.
Lord Chandra was afflicted with
the sin and underwent austerities worshipping Lord Vishnu on this sacred
land. At the divine instruction of Lord
all the holy rivers assembled on the pond positioned in this sacred land came
to known as Sarva Theertham. Lord
Chandra took dip in this Sarva Theertham and worshipped Lord Vishnu, eventually
got rid of the sin.
Lord Shiva plucked one of the
four heads of Lord Brahma and afflicted with the sin of Brahmahathya. Lord Shiva underwent severe penance
worshipping Lord Adi Keshava to eradicate the sin and got lessened his sufferings. Thus, this sacred land has got its name
Rudrapuri.
The legend has that Sage Brighu
and Rishis were performing Yagna on this sacred land the demons were created
severe impediments to their austerities.
All the Sages approached Lord Vishnu and requested to safeguard the
Yagna. Lord Vishnu assured them to
provide continuous support and protection.
As promised Lord Vishnu originated from the Yagna fire and beheaded the
demons.
This temple remains open from
6.30 AM to 11.30 AM in the morning and 4.30 PM to 8.30 PM in the evenings.
