Thirunaraiyur / Siddheecharam is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located near Nachiyar Kovil, Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu.  This is one of the prominent temples of Lord Shiva built by the Kings of Choza.
Presiding deity – Thiru Siddanatheswarar with his consort Goddess Sri Soundara Nayaki/AzAkambikai
 
Mangalasasanam – Thiru Gnana Sambandhar , Sundarar
 
Theertham – Siddha Theertham, Brahma Theertham,
 
Sthalavruksham – Pavizhammalli
 
Festivals – Maha Shivaratri, Masi Makam, Panguni Uthiram, Thirukarthikai, Aippasi Annabhishekam, Arudra Darisanam,
 
Worshipped by –Lord Kubera, Lord Subramanya, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Deities, Nara Narayana, Sage Medhavi, Sage Markandeya, Koraka Siddar, Serpent Gods, Arjuna,
 
Due to the curse Koraka Siddhar afflicted with acute skin diseases.  He underwent severe austerities and worshipped Lord Shiva, eventually got relieved from the curse.  Thus, the presiding deity assumed the name Siddanatheswarar in this temple.

The legend has that Sage Medhavi underwent severe penance worshipping Lord Shiva to attain Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi as his daughter.  Lord was pleased at the devotion of the Sage and appealed to Lord Vishnu to fulfill the earnest desire of Sage Medhavi.  At the command of Lord Vishnu, Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi appeared as a beautiful girl child in a lotus flower on the pond situated here.  Sage Medhavi was brought up this stunning girl child with great love and affection.  Later, Sage performed the marriage of his daughter to Lord Vishnu in the presence of Lord Shiva and Goddess Sri Parvati.
 
Another legend has that Nara and Narayana underwent severe austerities and worshipped Lord Siddhanatheswarar on this sacred land, whilst they had to endure extreme obstructions from a demon.  Nara and Narayana sought the advice of Maharishi Narada and Lord Surya to get rid of the demon.  As per the instruction, Nara and Narayana took custody of the powerful ear stud which has provided extra life to the demon and vanquished him.  In order to get relieved from the sin committed, they continued strict austerities worshipping Lord Siddhanatheswara in a hermitage on this sacred land.  In the meantime, Sage Durvassa paid a visit to the hermitage of Nara and Narayana and found them in a deep meditation.  Sage Durvassa was remained unnoticed by them; he was irritated at the behavior of Nara and Narayana and cursed them to be born as birds on Earth.  Consequently, Narayana and Nara took the form of birds and worshipped Lord at Thirunaraiyur and Siddheecharam respectively and got relieved from the curse.
 
 
This temple remains open from 6.00 AM to 12.00 PM in the morning and 4.30 PM to 8.30 PM in the evenings.
