The legend has that Goddess Sri Bhudevi underwent severe
austerities praying to Lord Vishnu to marry her. Lord was pleased at her devotion and wedded
her. Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi was
disappointed at this happening and left Sri Vaikundam. She arrived on this sacred land known for
Chembakavanam that was full of woods.
Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi underwent severe penance worshipping Lord Shiva. Lord Vishnu was extremely frustrated at the
separation of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi and went in search of his dearest wife. Eventually, Lord Vishnu arrived on this
woodland and worshipped Lord Shiva. Shortly Lord Brahma came down to Earth seeking
for Lord Vishnu and joined in the worship of Lord Shiva. Lord was pleased at the sincere devotion of
the deities and blessed them. Consequently,
Lord Vishnu regained Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi with the blessings of Lord Shiva.
This temple remains open from morning 7.00 AM to evening 7.00PM.
