Thirunannipalli/Punjai is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located in Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu. This is one of the oldest temples of Lord Shiva built by the Kings of Chola Dynasty famous for its brilliant architectural works.   In this temple Lord Shiva worshipped in the form of self-manifested Linga.

Lord Ganesha and Sage Agastya envisioned the glorious wedding of the divine couple Lord Shiva & Goddess Sri Parvati
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Thiru Gnana Sambandhar attained the eternal wisdom at the age of 3 years ; Goddess Sri Parvati blessed the child with her milk along with the knowledge of Supreme Lord. The little child composed several glorious verses of Lord immediately after the mysterious incident at Shirkazhi.  The Brahmin intellectuals from Thirunannipalli requested the parents of this divine child to be present in this village.  Shivapadhahurdayar took Sambandhar on his shoulder and brought him to this village at the request of the Brahmins of Thirunannipalli.  This village was a dry land,  Little Sambandhar sung glorious verses praising the Lord, soon the dry land turned into a flourished with rich natural resources.

This temple remains open from 6.30 AM to 12.00PM in the morning and 4.30 PM to 8.30 PM in the evenings.
