Jai Sriman Narayana !!
Bhishma Ekadashi /Shukla Paksha Ekadashi
and Bhishma Dwadashi are promising days to observe austerities in the month of
Magh. These days are considered as the
most auspicious day in which Bhishmacharya narrated to King Yudhishtira about the
108 holy names of Lord Vishnu, while he was on bed of arrows. These glorious verses were famously known as ‘Vishnu
Sahasranama’.
At the end of the mighty war between
Pandavas and Kauravas in the holy land Kurushektra, Bhishmacharya was heaved to
the bed of arrows and a huge number of the warriors were died at the war field. King Yudhishtira anxiously approached Bhishmacharya
and waveringly raised queries about who should be worshipped and who is having
all the Swatik Gunas. Bhismacharya
enlightens King Yudhistira with the glorious 1008 holy names of Lord Vishnu, the
Supreme Lord. It was believed that on Dwadashi day Pandavas performed last
rites for Bhishmacharya on the river banks of Ganaga. Hence, performance of last rites and homage
to ancestors on this day provides highest of the merits. Worship of Lord Vishnu and chanting holy
names of Lord on these auspicious days provides abundance of pieties includes
salvation. Bhishma Ashtami, Bhishma
Ekadashi and Bhishma Dwadashi are propitious days for the worship of Lord
Vishnu, these days are capable to provide highly meritorious rewards.
