Sage Manavala Mamunigal was profound in Veda Sastra from the early ages of childhood.  He was devoted his entire life in performing daily rituals to Lord Veeranarayana Perumal in this temple. Once, while carrying out the daily rituals the Sage happened to hear the voices of group of devotees assembled chanting the glorious verses ending with Aravamuthey. Sri Manavala Mamunigal was ecstatic, a strong desire developed in him to recover this splendid composition; his longing to get hold of the entire composition brought him to Kumbakonam. Consequently, Lord Aravamuthan was directed the sage to Thirukkurugur where he was obtained the entire compositions from Thiru Nammalvar.   Shortly, Thiru Manavala Mamunigal returned to Kattu Mannar Kovil and publicized the 4000 Divya Prabandham available for the public.
